Physical Characteristics. Palm Beach County is on Florida's Atlantic coast, north of Ft. Lauderdale, and is bordered by Broward, Hendry, and Martin counties. The county has 1993.11 square miles of land and 235.90 square miles of water for a total of 2229.01 square miles. The average January temperature is 67.2 degrees fahrenheit and the average August temperature is 81.7 degrees fahrenheit. The average annual rainfall is 59.44 inches.
History. Palm Beach County was established in 1909 from a portion of Dade County and named for the coconut palms that lined the Atlantic Ocean beach.
